Ballea Writers Club formed in March 2006 and achieved over 200 publications in their first two years. The founder members of the writing group met on a creative writing course with Vincent McDonnell in Carrigaline, Co Cork, Ireland.
A flurry of early publications, competition wins, short-listings and long-listings, brought the writing group many new members, both local and online, and from as far afield as Southern Sudan.
Ballea Writers Club and the Village of Carrigaline, where Ballea Castle stands, was acclaimed as a centre of literary excellence when, in less than a year of their foundation, the writing group portfolio, of fiction, poetry and journalism, won them second place in the All Ireland Writers Group of the Year Awards.
