Ballea Writers Club Ireland - Awards
|
In February 2007 the Ballea Writers Club portfolio won 2nd in the All Ireland Writers Group of The Year Awards. The portfolio was a selection of journalism, poetry and fiction. An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern (Prime Minister of Ireland) congratulates Elaine Rhys-Davies and Kate Sheehy of Ballea Writers Club.

In March 2007 Ballea Writers Club awarded prizes to 40 young poets; winners of the Ballea Writers Club Young Poets of the Year Awards.

In May 2007 Authors John O'Connell and Joe Kelly of Ballea Writers Club had their award winning short stories published in the Bealtaine 2007 Anthology. To their right is Bealtaine judge Vincent McDonnell, a former writing tutor of John and Joe.

In June 2007 Elaine Rhys-Davies was elected to The Society of Authors. Elaine has also published under her former names, Elaine Elliott and Elaine Phillips-Howard. She is a free-lance journalist who writes literary columns, fiction and poetry. As Elaine Phillips-Howard she invented the board game 'Auction' that won Best New Game in Europe in 1987. She then licensed 'Auction' to Schmidt Spiele of Germany.

In October 2007, five members of Ballea Writers Club Ireland; James Bilson, Pat Goulding, Mary Lynskey, John O' Connell and Elaine Rhys-Davies had their winning short stories shortlisted for the Bealtaine Literary Awards of May 2008.
